Last night during a band break, I jokingly asked one of the waitresses if it was a full moon tonight.... She just laughed and said "Oh yeah". I didn't realize it actually was, until I looked at my calendar today...
My auld mum is a retired registered nurse, and the furthest thing from superstitous, but she swears by the full moon thing, from her days in the mental health institutions.
I've personally seen more erratic, wierd, twisted, and sometimes violent behaviour during my last two night gig than I've seen in a long time... brawls right and left, people acting really wierd... I'm glad there was a rail around the band, and my steel tonight.
So, what do you think ? Should we maybe carry extra instrument insurance for Full Moon Gigs ? Is it a coincidence ? Do you all notice people acting wierd(er) at your Full Moon Gigs ?

The rowdiness of the Canadian jazz crowds is legendary down in these parts. It must be intimidating...

John - I'm a retired Public Safety Captain - trust me, that "full moon syndrome" is very, very real - any other public safety types on the forum (police, fire, EMTS, dispatchers, etc, ER doctors, nurses, etc.) I believe will back me up here - oh, I ALSO tended bar in a number of California honky tonks before I entered the public safety profession and thats where I first encountered the "syndrome" - I can -still- tell you the capacity in oz's of a beer bottle as it whizzes past my ear! I'll bet many forum members can as well. . . . Yup - when it's a full moon out there. . . . .

It's where the word 'lunatic' comes from.

John,

For the past 22 years I have been a social services worker. My knowledge of moon phases is limited to what's on the calendar and in the sky. I'm not a superstitious person at all. In my often thankless job I deal with the reality of the human condition on a daily basis. Let me assure you that the full moon syndrome thing is real because our agency has to face the effects of it every month. I would never have believed it either until I got into this profession. By the way, I am bracing myself for the worst at work tomorrow in the aftermath of Friday's "blue moon". Other folks in the health, safety, mental health, or other helping professions will tell you the same thing right down the line. Strange but true. If I could fix it I would.

The old man's a dentist, and I'll tell you that we got more calls at 3 in the morning from druggie junko's that weren't even patients on full moon nights than all the other nights combined. It just pulls 'em out of the woodworks. Good job on the "Lunatic" tie-in.

Now I'm working at a bar, and this last Halloween (also a full moon) was quite possibly one of the craziest nights I've ever seen. I even met my current girlfriend that night........ (NO COMMENT)
