I thought this show was a complete waste of time. I was actually pretty angry by the end of it. Talk about rushed. Talking heads who just seemed to talk for the heck of it. Keb Mo talking about Robert Johnson then playing Love in Vain in the Rolling Stones style. WHat did that MOR song the Keb Mo sang have to do with Delta Blues?
The show just seemed to jump all over the place. Jeez I hope the western swing one is better, but I doubt it, again they seem to be covering about ten or more different genres in a one hour time segment, and doing justice to none..A pale imiatation of the Jazz series in format.
The footage of Son House was priceless though. I'd like to see a lot more of this and a lot fewer talking heads. [This message was edited by Steve England on 30 October 2001 at 09:18 AM.] |

Yeah, a lot of these documentaries have all the substance of a Big Mac. I would have liked seeing Son House. What song(s) did he do? Man, that cat's voice could just nail you to a wall. |

Any of you catch "Bill Wyman's Blues Oddysey" on Bravo last night. Now there's the way to do a roots program properly. Great show, covered about all the stones early influences and featured some great footage, and interviews with real blues greats...not Keb Mo!!! |

Janice, thank you for the reminder - I would have forgotten.
I think we have to bear in mind that documentaries like this were not created with us fanatics in mind. I agree that alot of the info seems watered-downed and regurgitated to people who study it... but, like the Jazz series, I find the footage fascinating ('specially the Jimmy Rogers clips on the last one!) and therefore well worth the watch, imho.
Even if you have to miss Survivor.

Ya Steve, that Bill Wyman thing was good, I watched it twice. Even went and bought a couple cds by some of those old blues guys. Bill Wyman looks good for a 65 year old Stone. Especially if you compare him to Keith. |

Tonights segment was even more rushed then last week. I did enjoy the clips of Leadbelly
and Merle Travis though.
