What exactly did Chris Cagle say about steel guitar?
Before his Opry debacle, I thought I read or heard that Cris Cringle (my derisive name for that Cagle guy) said something bad about pedal steel. That (plus his apparent total disrespect for the Opry)irritates me.
However, to be fair, I want to know if there is anyone here who has documented or can document any disparaging remarks he has made. His performance already gives him two strikes against him......
Any help on this will be appreciated.

Chris Cagle is new (first CD released last year?).
I believe he's only released 2 singles so far:
"My Love Goes On and On" (and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and . . . ) - - - I could definitely live without that song having ever been played, but his fans love it. It'll probably be his "signature song" just like "26 Cents" is for The Wilkinsons.
and
"Laredo" -- this song is OK - not great, but OK.
I've heard him play in Lima, OH -- wouldn't go out of my way to hear him play again. (Though I think I will be hearing him again in August at another concert).
If I recall correctly, what he reportedly said was "who needs a steel guitar (player?) anyway?" at a concert soon after: a) he fired his steel player, or b) the steel player left the band. It's buried here somewhere in the forum, and I'm sure a search would turn it up.

Theresa: If you run into that Hinson boy, Steve, tell him Larry G and myself are still Makin' Macon Music and we don't do chickens for Cagles either. Wouldn't want him to think we are back sliding.

A few months ago I was in a group doing a warm up show for that guy, Cagle. His fiddle player is a force to be reckoned with even though the music Cagle performs is not my cup of tea and he'll probably sell more records then I have an opportunity to procreate!!!!!

That fiddle player is Alex DePue.
He's on a recent Herby Wallace CD and a Frank Rogers Cd.
He performed with Herby at the last ISGC.
Herby said he has the best intonation he's ever heard. Great stage presence too.
I suspect he'll be around a lot longer than his current boss.

Joe, I knew "that" and I didn't want to take a chance in misspelling his name since I was thoroughly enjoying a goblet or two of Malbec made by Suter. In addition to being an accomplished picker, Alex is a great guy to chat with. I agree with you, he will be around considerably longer than his boss!

Yeah, Alex is pretty good...ain't no Tommy Jackson, mind 'ya...but he is pretty good! And Gary...if you can put down that glass of wine for a minute (ain't no damn "goblet", it's just a glass, man!), I was just going to suggest that Jay D. Henley deserves to be on the Opry a lot more than that Cagle guy.
By the way...great job at the show last Week! I couldn't believe that with all those good steelmen...Buddy Charleton, you, Curry Coster, Ray Chilton, and all the others, that there were only a hundred people there!
Lotta folks missed a good show...

No Donny, actually its a basin which holds 64 ounces. Yes, I'm a glutton! Even after the wine has been open, there needs to be ample breathing room and an instrument (glass, goblet or whatever) that will allow your nose to be submerge in the aroma, wine aroma that is! Hmmm, I don't remember eating that!!!!!!!!!!
Alex was warming up well before the show started and I kick myself for not bringing my banjo with me. Alex enjoys playing just banjo and fiddle stuff.
What a thrill it was to be on stage with Charleton and Curry. Those guys play so good and thank you for the compliment. BTW, did Curry email you Paul's pictures?
