One of the greats has left us. John Lee Hooker died last night at the age of 84.

Aw, no way!
This is such sad news. My partner (of almost a decade) and myseef used to listen to John Lee Hooker all the time when we first got together. It was one of our first shared musical acts, before each others taste began to bleed together.
He's been part of my life for so long, this is a real loss for the veteran blues community.
May his boogie remain eternal. |

i recall workin' at a Pop Festival at Gulfstream Raceway in Miami back in 68 or 69.
Hendrix,Zappa,Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Blue Cheer are those i remember offhand appearing.
There had been an elektrik problem causing power failure to the stage.
Only the PA was in workin' order.
Well, John Lee Hooker played a long set that afternoon. Just Him and an Acoustic Guitar.
Well, he did just great !
Goes to show that ya' don't need all kinds of equipment to be Real !
Back at "the Castaways" motel, of all the bands that were stayin' there, John Lee Hookers room was where it was all happenin' and also where all the chicks went.
i'm sure the Delta area in Heaven is gonna be real glad to see him appear.
BB King + Gatemouth Brown are the only ones that i can think of, who remain.
The Blues ain't nothin' but a good man feelin' bad. RIP John Lee

| I saw John Lee at Carnagie Hall back in the early 80's with John Hammond, Willie Dixon, Sippie Wallace, and some unknown guy named Robert Cray, who opened the show. John Lee was a big influence on me, and I'll miss him. |
