| I'm just curious if anyone has adapted any alan holdsworth tunes to psg. I'm listening to the 'Hard Hat Area' album and 'Ruhkukuah' just finished up. If I ever get anywhere with learning this instrument I'd love to try playing some of this stuff. |

Years ago in a Guitar Player interview Allan Holdsworth said that he "loves the sound of steel guitar".His legato phrasing is sometimes a bit steel-like,so some of his tunes might be worth trying to play.

Good luck!
I agree that alot of his stuff sounds like it would work on steel, in my mind, the tone and style of his chord work especially. I would tenatively suggest that the speed of his single-note work would forbid an exact approach in that area  , as I'm sure you're aware.
Does anybody know how to get his latest CD,"the Sixteen Men of Tain?" I haven't been able to special order that so far. |

I wouldn't presume to try and duplicate exactly what AH does. As Olli points out, some of the really sweet stuff is in the slower passages. And the fast stuff just has too many notes

To actually try to answer your question, although I've never heard of any transcriptions for steel, there is a book for guitar, called "Reaching for the Uncommon Chord" that is his life's story, including quite a bit of tab and possibly standard notation. I got that in the 80's.
Another possibility, if you're interested in how he thinks and comes up with things on the guitar, is the instructional-video "Just for the Curious", and a book that he wrote on chord melody. There isn't much in the way of exact tunes, but I've found these immensely helpful to see how he views the instrument.
Heck, I'll probably buy everything he puts out, until he or I die. (I don't know about $31.00, though). |

| I've also thought that a lot of Bill Conner's music could be adapted well to steel guitar. In some ways, his phrasing is even more 'steel-like' than Holdsworth's and, at times, his tone even can evoke steel guitar to my ears. |
