While surfing, I stopped on CMT for a moment. They were running Keith Upton (I think) singing "But For the Grace of God". The steel wailing through the background stopped me for a moment. I thought the lyrics were pretty good, the steel kind of heavy. (JMHO) Then came the moment where he was singing in front of the band; bass, rhythm, fiddle and the singer's guitar. No steel was in sight but that was all you could hear, the vocal and the unseen steel.
Do the producers actually know what's going on? Sometimes I just don't know and other times I just think, "Oh well."

The PSG is NOT hip, or "kewel", as they say now. It's still associated with fat old men and hillbilly music. The videos are geared at the young (13 year-old) audience. Sticking a PSG in a video would be like letting a loud fart in church!

Hmmmm, guess I'm too old(19) for that crowd, but I listen to a lot of modern country and love hearing steel in it. "Just To Hear You Smile" by Tim McGraw and "Without You" by Dixie Chicks actually got me started in liking the steel sound. "Born To Fly" by Sara Evans has some nice Dobro playing in it too.
