Dale Watson - Lincoln, NE last night
Hello all - just a quick note here this morning.... DW and his crew played Lincoln last night and I made the 140 mile run down I-80 to the gig. They are here in the midwest for a couple of weeks of shows before heading back over to Europe for what sounds like much of the month of August.
Relatively light crowd last night made for great opportunity for Dale to have easy conversation with folks, take many requests, etc, (of couse with little promo locally, hell, just out of curiosity I called the big "country" station down there and surprise, surprise, they'd never even heard of Dale) NOTES:
- new steel player was very good, talked with him briefly during a break and after the show some.... last name is Rauch or something like that and is from Midland,TX (am sure some of you on the board here will know who I'm talking about) anyway, very nice guy and really worked pretty smooth with Dale for just being 2nd night out. He had great things to say about Ricky D, and obviously is very pleased with this opportunity to tour with DW.
- They had just spent several days in Memphis recording at SUN Studios.... Dale talked about this on stage and the vibes he had delivering his vocals standing on Johnny Cash's "X" taped on the floor. As he often does, he covered several Cash songs last night - absolutely and reverently nails those to the floor. Sounds as if there will likely be a fall/winter release of those sessions from SUN. should be super. and....
- while overseas next month, they are going to record a live album in London. He seems very enthused about doing that, should have some great new DW albums for us all later this year/early 2001.
Great to visit with Dale and his crew last night, Billy, Scott, and Donnie all seemed in top form.... the "Longhorn Suburban" is on the road and on a roll! - Neil Hilton

Ma'am, we've never met formally but, well, hi! I haven't written Emmett for a while 'cause I don't want him to feel obliged to spend time responding when he's got better things to do. But tell him HI if you'd be so kind. I look forward to some reporting from him here on living life like a superstar. How many motel rooms he's trashed, and such.

Hi Mrs. Roch; this is Dales' former Steel player. So nice of you to pop in on Emmett's behalf and please keep us updated on Emmett and Dale; as I am very interested in their time together and progress out there. I had a chance to work with Emmett some before they left on this longish tour and Emmett picked up stuff on the steel very quickly and I was pleased with his great attitude and hard work on continuing this style of music Dale puts out.
Next time you talk to your man, please tell him Ricky says howdy and to "GO GET UM"(steel guitar nerd talk).
Keep in touch.

Thank you Ricky for all of your support. I know Emmett appreciates all of your help. I hope that some of my family members will be able to catch the Watson/Watson show in Minnesota. It will be great. One of Emmett's bands actually backed up Gene Watson in Midland a few years back (quite a few years ago).
