Who was the first to record (farwell Party)
And approx.what year?I remember Johnny Bush&Gene Watson and Im sure there were others....Sam

I believe Little Jimmy Dickens had the first recording of "Farewell Party". I don't know who played steel on his version or who wrote it.

It was written by Lawton Williams, he of "Fraulein".

As far as I know, his recording of the song was also the earliest. On Le Bill 304, a label owned by Bill Smith in Fort Worth. Early 60s probably.

Lawton did it as a shuffle!
