Wow! I heard "Murder On Music Row" today! Written by Larry Cordell, this is pure country. George & Alan sing so good and the steel, guitar, and fiddle shine!

I just wanted to say I bought a cassette a couple of weeks ago by David Frizzell..The 1st song on it is "Murder On Music Row"..
It will bring tears to hear him sing it!!!
If it could get airplay I am sure it would go to the top..I don't know who is singing the harmony on it but WOW is all I can say..If you get a chance give it a listen..I love Alan & George but vocally there is NO comparison..You gotta hear it...Later Ron

I have a "white" CD copy of the David Frizzell version. Great song. And the lyrics are very true!

I've never heard the Larry Cordell version, the "country" stations in my area aren't playing it.

Teresa - I went down to the Station Inn las nght here Nashville, TN and heard Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard Time live. Great acoustic country music. They have another song called "Jesus & the Bartender (Hear It All)" that is just killer. Of course "Murder on Music Row" is the obvious hit in that everyone on this forum (and I would venture to say everyone on any country music forum) identifies with the message. Hopefully country music is this purer form (if that's the right word to use) will find a place again in Radio consultant's hearts (there's an oxymoron - a radio consultant's heart). Best, Boomer

Boomer the Jesus and bartenders title got my attention. I also like Black Dimoand Strings
and the Kentucky Miner recitation.

I finally got to hear the Larry Cordell version of the song. Between David Frizzell's cut and Larry's, I like the David Frizzell cut better.

When is the Strait/Jackson cut going to be released?

Boomer,
I know everyone on the forum agree's with the message "Murder On Music Row." It's well written. I love what I'm hearing on the radio today, because I still hear old and new music.
Also, with George Jones winning a grammy last night for "Choices" radio will continue to play country. Mix is really the key!

Janice - Good ears! Theresa, hopefully country music radio will ultimately realize there is room for all demographics in country music, not just 14-25 year olds. And while these country radio programmers grew up with "Rock & Roll guitars mixed up in your face", there is more than enough of the public out there that would like to hear those instruments compliment the singer rather than competewith him/her. I sight the great music of The Time Jumpers who play at the Station Inn in Nashville, TN Monday nights. Best, Boomer

Johnny, as I stated I like that cut better. David gave me a "DJ" copy of it when he was down here in Fla a couple of months ago. Did you do the dobro too??

Boomer,
I'm hearing more traditional guitar on new stuff lately. But certain songs don't call for it, like others. Radio has always had a play list and maybe we as fans need to call in and request more.
Speaking of "The Time Jumpers" Gregg is working this coming Monday night at the Station Inn! Please come and visit, we need to talk! Best, Theresa

Teresa - Can't wait to see you & Gregg Monday night. Greg is the one who got me to move here to Nashville (I don't know whether to kiss him or kill him ). He is in the top five of my favorite guitarists of all time. And his wife is a great lady. See you Monday night. Best, Boomer

Theresa - I just heard the Jackson/Strait rendition of "Murder on Music Row", and while I thought the playing was excellent, I felt George and Alan were doing a "vocal event"; Larry Cordel, on the other hand, had the emotional pathos that made me believe what he was writing and singing. However, George and Alan have the political and commercial power to relay the message to corporate executives on Music Row, so let's see how this plays out. Hope to see you and Gregg tonight at the Station Inn. Best, Boomer
