The "oldie country" station I listen to , plays a lot of J. Rod. tunes. Just heard the tune "There's Still A Lot of Love In San Antone". Lots of beautiful steel in that song , as in most of his songs. Who Done It ??

Johnny Rogriquez, What a voice! I sure miss hearing all his great songs. One of my favorite was called "Dance with me once again darlin'", I don't think I've ever heard him do "There's Still a lot of Love in San Antone". The best version that I've heard is by Darrell McCall.

still a lot of love.....awesome song, dont know who cut it 1st but it was written by A.L. Owens and Lou Rochelle..sorry couldnt be of more help. Of course anything darrell sings is gonna come out real fine...

Lou Rochelle was a fine steel player in his time. Lou is retired now and is a member of the "RV set."

Johnny R. was aquitted and he's free but I haven't heard anything else.

Yeah , Johnny Rodriguez recorded some FINE stuff. Our band just learned Johnny's number "Foolin'"...we didn't have the record but the guitar player remembered everyone's parts and showed us how it went. We subbed in some harmonies and background vocals which seemed to fit and did it on the job Saturday evening. You simply would not believe how well that song went over, and the dance floor filled immediately and stayed full. Several couples literally jumped to their feet and hustled out there to dance! It was great. Maybe we'll do that song every week, hope so.

Yeah Tim..,Johnny also had a marginal hit
with "PASS ME BY"........some great up front
steel in this song too......try it on those
'swingers'. Nothin' better
than to see someone MOVED [inspired].

Right Chip, we've done "Pass Me By" off and on over the years, it works good. Got that righteous turnaround figured out several different ways just to wake 'em up. Incidentally, ain't it strange how these good songs consistently pack the dancefloor, and yet there's usually some know-it-all behind the bar who says that song sounds "too country"? Hah! They keep asking me "what's that thing you're playing?" and I keep educatin' them, the steel guitar is great for all kinds of music but it RULES on a good country shuffle or a western swing number, and especially on a Johnny Rodriguez tune! (Think nothing of it ladies and gentlemen, it's only the steel player and he'll be through in a minute) Good thread... Tim R.

Cohan?)There's Still A lot of Love in San Antone was Lou Rochelle a steel player from Texas.
