Single Note E9 lick

I find this very useful in many songs. The trick is to hold the bar at the fifth fret and pick the 6th string.

Bill,
Great thread, brother!
I don't know though, this looks like it might be a little over my head; this lick is
one of those that are best left to the pros!
What do you think? You want to write a few
more along these lines? LOL:-)
Have a good one!
,Kevin

I think I used to play this lick, only I remember it on the 3rd fret.

Looks like someone has stolen my lick...I use this in the "One Note Samba". All my friends know its me when they hear this lick. You can also play this on the C6 neck at the 4th fret 4th string. The phrasing is real tricky, but...practice...practice...practice and more practice...

Gee, I started off on that lick. Sure brings back memories. But it's sometimes useful in the pedals down position. Here it is:

What FX would you recommend to bring out the nuances? Would you, like, plug into an amp?

Advanced courses teach sting 4 12th fret, no bar just a finger for the harmonic chime!
Pedals down.... still an E

Please, for all of us that aren't so versed on this instrument of puzzlement and mystery, when you tab stuff always include the tuning. scooter

Man. I've spent about 6 hours trying to learn that lick and just can't get it. Maybe I'm using the wrong finger. Am I using the wrong bar? Do I have to be in the same room as the guitar??? Please help!!!! This has me so stressed out. Maybe I should just sell all my stuff and learn how to play the triangle. But then, do you hold it in the left or right hand. Where's my Prozac?

I can't seem to master that lick either. It obviously isn't country and must be for one of those NCS songs.

Some of the older tab used to indicate which finger or thumb to use - perhaps you could add this?
Also, do you block this lick with your palm, or your pick?
(Thanks for the post, humor is a great gift!)

I don't think it's blocked with the palm or picks. I'm finally starting to get the lick. The best way to block it that I have found, is when my head falls down on the strings from exaustion. Now head blocking takes a lot of practice. You don't want it to slam down too hard. If you do, your head might bounce back up causing sounds you don't necessarily want. Although, if you practice bouncing your forehead off the strings, you can get a sound that is close to the "Speedy West slamming the bar on the strings" sound.
Good luck.<p ALIGN=CENTER><FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b">[This message was edited by Richard Sinkler on 07-23-99]</FONT></P>

Oh no guys. I just heard this lick in a Marilyn Manson song my son was playing. And check this out, IT WAS PLAYED ON A REGULAR GUITAR. I even think I heard the Bass Player play this lick. Now that guitar players have copied this lick from us, I think our future is looking pretty bleak.
By the way, does anyone know if you play this lick on the bagpipes?

After a couple hours trying to work this one out, my wife blocked it for me...

OK...I give up. I think we shud go to the steel guitar God (Big "E") and ask him for some help...

I was looking for picking exercises and found this in a forum search, and I intend to start working on this tomorrow morning, after a night's rest. But I'm wondering, what is the tempo on this?
