You described exactly right. A WORKOUT.
Yes, I think I have it pretty close to Buddy's arrangement. The bridge is really tricky and there's only one way I've found to do it so that it has the same phrasing as Buddy -- plus be playable up to tempo. I'll try to remember to post it (if I didn't earlier -- check the archives). If I don't, send me an EMail. I have it as an Excel spreadsheet.

It's probably a real workout because Buddy used the Emmons single 12 basketweave guitar with the extended E9 tuning.
Larry, can you post a link to the Excel doc?

It's my pleasure, Sonny
BTW, it's actually easier to play on a U-12 because you don't have to skip over the D string on the last 2M of the verse with the open string stuff that doesn't need the D. 
I've actually played it just a hair faster than the record, so I'm pretty sure the positions work at that tempo. I practiced it for a show and noticed that I couldn't play it up to tempo more than three times in a row without my hands getting REALLY FATIGUED. Good luck. It makes a great instrumental -- AND a great strength building exercise.
