Jimmy Day recorded this steel instrumental on his "Swing and Blues Southern Style" album. The song title is "Please Don't Leave Me Anymore." I have made a humble attempt to tab out the song as Jimmy Day so beautifully played it. The tab may be a bit difficult to pick up without first hearing the album. I have recorded this song using my Pro II ShoBud. The tab is fairly close to the recording. I used Band-in-a-Box to create the track. Listening to Jimmy play it, you'd think it was C6th; but it's not--It's all E9th. It's a great song to learn and fun to play, enjoy.

Gosh Dave you sure have the ShoBud sounding great pal.....but then again; it "IS" a ShoBud.

And great intonation on your playing and great tab.....but if I was to critique the way Jimmy Day played it compared to your tab....the only thing I can say at this point is: Jimmy Day didn't and never lowered his 4th string(or high E note) on his E9th tuning.
But what you tabbed plays just fine and again......Great Job.

Ricky, or anyone else: why didn't Jimmy Day or Lloyd Green lower the 4th string? Is there a sound that they would have lost if they did? I've often wondered.

Hey Dave two reasons(one reason stronger for some guys than the other).
Back in the old'en days...ha.....Like the permenant ShoBuds and some single finger changers....you could either lower or raise a string....BUT NOT BOTH.
So of course they would opt for raising the high E note 1/2 step on Knee lever and whole step on pedal...and not lower it.
Other reason; is the tuning problems of the 4th string(high E) of raising and lowering...it would never come back perfectly...and those players didn't care for that.
Also Weldon Myrick and some others didn't lower the 4th string.
That is simply not a "have to" change...IMO...as I have played several guitars through the years without that change..and it is really cool how you can do so much without it and makes you really look at the instrument and it's other possiblilies....when you disable a function you are used to..."New doors Open".

Just as a sidebar, the song was written by one of the great musicians of western swing, who honored me with his friendship and by playing music with me: Jesse Ashlock. I can't believe its been 25 years since his funeral.

Other classics from Jesse were: "The Kind of Love I Can't Forget," "Still Water Runs the Deepest," "My Life's Been a Pleasure," and "Red Ball Whistle."
