I know most people prefer Johnny Paycheck's rendition, but I just want to learn the steel Intro to Tammy Wynette's version -- can't even remember who played on it.

Does anybody have that tabbed? Couldn't find it on Rebel's site or with a general search.

Thanks!

And what a GREAT job he did. One of the finest things he ever recorded.

That unison he plays about 9 seconds in kills me. They say Pete would come up with a particular pedal/lever change for certain songs, and never use 'em again. This is probably a case in point.

I used to know this one, so I'll get back to you.

Ah, yes, Pete Drake. He was Billy Sherrill's right hand steel man back then, wasn't he?

Hope you can dig it up, Scott! 'Course if it >does< involve a special lever, I'm sunk: My Carter Starter is "hard-wired" from the factory with the standard Nashville E9th setup. (Which is great for my purposes: I don't need to get sidetracked >under< the guitar when I have so much to learn >above< it! But as with any axe, it >does< have its limits.)

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you can get that unison lick by dropping the 2nd string (D#) a whole step.

Weeelllll, I don't have that change, and my axe can't be changed. My second string knee lever only lowers it a half step.

Does that sink me?

John,

Thanks for your 'structions and offer of telephone support!

I'll try it out as soon as I can, but practicing is on low priority for the next few weeks -- our 9 month old daughter is having heart surgery Friday. So if I seem to "disappear" from here, that's why.

Thanks!

Birney

Birney-
Best wishes for your daughter's speedy recovery. That's got to be a lot to deal with.

I will be thinking of you and your girl, and I know she will be okay.

Take care,
Scott

Thanks! I know from reading many posts here that a lot of people here are similarly kind and supportive in their thoughts and prayers! I've even gotten some nice e-mail from people who wanted to say so discretely.

I thank all of you, whether you post your support or not!

You nailed it Mark. Mike Spaeth tabbed that for me 10 years ago and I get to show it off every time somebody wants to sing it. It always brings a compliment. Thanks Mike.

Now that I'm "back", I just thought I'd follow up on my daughter Amy's heart surgery that I mentioned above, because a number of you have kindly sent your good wishes and prayers in various ways.

She did great! It took place at Egleston in Atlanta, where my parents live. Actually, it was the open heart surgery that went best on the whole trip! She got a stomach virus as soon as she came home from the hospital. She got over it OK, but when the rest of us got it, we looked -- and felt -- like bowling pins after a strike! We're pretty much over it now, but it generated grist for many stories that are hilarious now that we've survived 'em!

She'll have one more major surgery when she's about 2 years old (she's 9 months now), and if all goes as well as it did this time, that should be that for her heart problems. (I.e., she also has Down syndrome -- 50% of whom have heart defects -- so we have plenty to do on that to give her a better quality of life than she would have had even 10 or 20 years ago.)

That's probably enough info for most, but I do also have an e-mail list that I use to "publish" Amy-related medical updates and prayerful reflections to friends and family that I started with her early diagnoses and my grappling with them. It goes to over a 100 people now.

Think what the world would be like if >every< child got that much prayer to start off with!

Thanks and blessings to you all!
