Loyd Green/Don Williams Tab

Post by Roger Meekhof »

Does anyone know of any Don Williams music with Loyd on steel that has been tabbed?
Having been to St Louis this year, Loyd and Tommy Whites instumentals of "Till all the Rivers Run Dry" and "Lord I hope this Day is Good"are still playing in my mind.

I could be wrong on this, but I'm not sure Don Williams had a lot of steel on his recordings. I remember seeing him live on Hee Haw a few times and his band consisted of a stand-up bass, drummer, and himself on
amplified acoustic guitar. That was it. He was king of the minimalists. FWIW

"Some Broken Hearts Never Mend". If LG never did another steel break after that, he still would have made his mark with that song.

Chip, you are right about Don Williams being a "minimalist". His sound was creatated with the right touch by great muscians. I have had the privilage of seeing Don in person a number of times and you are right, he doesn't
include steel in his band. Loyd however does some great (minimal) breaks and intros, steel and Dobro, on some of Don's music. Loyd has also commented on the "great melody"
of some of this work and how they can "stand alone as instrumentals", as he and Tommy White displayed at St Louis and on their video.
Thanks for your input.

Thanks Roger and Jeff. You guys got me piked
now. I hate to say it, but I do not have 1
CD, LP, or cassette of Don Williams. And with Lloyd on some cuts, I'm gonna hafta go get me a couple. This is too good. Always dug DW and his sincere, no-nonsense approach,
and great songwriting.
