Has anybody tabed the Riff In BE's Perdido?
I'm wanting to know the chord changes. I realize that Riffs normally cover the changes for the A or B part. I not sure this does...

I guess he has more then one cut. All I know it's the big band Riff he plays in the middle of it.. Not sure which cut that's on. Could be on both (all)..

Thanks Ernie..I already have that chart.... I guess that I'm having trouble with fitting The Riff to the changes... I know that BE has a tab on Perdido and I would be glad to purchase it, if it included the Riff and changes that go behind it... I have this burning desire to get this down...

Chet, this is the riff that is done 2/3 the way through, with the big horns. The main thing is that it uses pedal 7 for that kind of voicing. This is the pedal that raises string 3 from C to D and string 4 from A to B. Key of course is Bb. Where you see an asterisk * , those notes are a triplet played real fast. At the end of the riff, it sounds like he might be playing an octaves here or there. Not sure. Also, the second time through, there is a two part harmony of the last lick.

Thanks a Ton Jeff... I'm not trying to push my luck here... But is this riff played using the chord changes of the B Part, or is the band using a different progression?

I'm not sure what you mean by A or B part. I guess you mean the main verse is A and the bridge is B. Anyway, it is played over the chords for the main verse - Cm7 F7 BbMaj7 Bb6, etc. etc.

Jeff, I owe you one.... It's simple amazing how easy it is when you know what your doing.
I tried different combinations for a long time... but missed that one... I do have some problems hearing inversions... Give me the same chord in a different inversion and I'm trying make it something different then what it is..

Yes, I used A and B to discribe the two different chord progressions...

Maybe if you looked at each part of this riff as a chord (which loosely matches the chords for the head) it would make more sense:

I have written the roots in, with a * next to them. You might want to hit that note first, let it ring, then play the chord above it. Bear in mind that these are just one example of how one might voice these chords. I have tried to leave the melody line of the riff on the top, so it sings out and you can hear it. Big M means major, little m means minor.
Does that make more sense ?
