I have heard Chic COrea's Spain played by Paul Franklin. Has anyone tabbed out the Head? If so.... Another that interest me is "third stream" that Bud Emmons does. JUst the heads would be fine. Buck

I think the Emmons tune you're thinking of is "The Great Stream".
It's on his "Live at the ISGC" album/CD and also on Mike Ihde's Live CD recorded in Boston. You should get his CD and/or video of that great concert. When you get the video you can watch the master himself play it and learn this tune and many more from watching and studying.

re: Spain
I played it years ago, but I've always been a universal player and used the A and B pedals a lot as I recall. Probably wouldn't help much for C6 -- I presume that's what you had in mind. We used it as the warm-up tune for one of the productions of "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" I did 15 years ago or so. The crowd coming in wondered if they were in the wrong place.
It's a great tune -- get the sheet music and figure it out. It will be a real learning experience. Once you have the head and melody, start listening carefully to the chord voicings. 'Bout as fer as ye'll ever git from a cuuuuuun'try song.

Thank you. I agree that the process of learning a tune off a recording or from the sheet music is beneficial, in and of itself.
"Spain" should only take me a week and 2 lbs. of coffee. I will see if Mike has that video. Buck
