I'm hearing either an open string or just a natural harmonic or distortion (could even be something in the groove of my old vinyl) in there that's driving me nuts. I'm happy with the way I'm playing it but really curious about that mystery sound. Anyone got a tab?

It's been a long time since I played his version and I don't even remember what key it's in, but he is definitely playing an open string, probably the third string with and without the B pedal. Don't forget that the Buckaroos tuned one fret lower so his open string would be a G instead of a G#.

Anyway, I'm glad to know that it's indeed an open string. I've been experimenting with the 2nd but I'll see what I can do with the 3rd. I'll also try tuning it down a half.

The song is in G# or Ab>what ever you wanna call it. Tom is using his 3rd string as a open root note and plays the bar on the 4th string. He played the melody on the 4th string with the 3rd string open all the way to the 5 chord.
Pretty cool. If you do the song in G; than just raise your 1st string up to G from F# and use it as the open root note. If you do the song in A; than use your 3rd string B pedal down A note, as the open root note.
But play the melody with the bar on the 4th string, so that the tenure of the strings are very close. It is waaaaay cool.

I think this may be the hardest doggone thing
I've ever tried to play. I think Mr. Brumley may have been using three strings:
melody on 5 with some A pedal here and there,
4th string with some F lever here and there,
and open 3rd string. When he goes to V it sounds like he drops the 3rd string.

Ricky, I'm going to have to give up unless
you can tab it on your Ricky and Rebel site in the near future.

You will either have to tune the guitar to Eb instead of E, or play the song in the key of A.
Hopefully this is the right part. It is a lot of open strings there.
