Drinkin' Champagne ????

Post by Chas Holman »

I think it's a Geo. Strait song and according to our band leader, has a gutiar and steel twin on the intro. I've never heard the recording, but after playing it for a month or so (obviously incorrectly) I've been told to LEARN IT...!

Any help would be appreciated,

-Chas

1. Buy the CD. Image
2. Listen to the licks in the song.
3. Learn the licks. Image
4. If #3 doesn't work, then ask! Image

Song is written by Bill Mack and George S. recorded it ten or twelwe years ago.

I did play it in my band years ago and this might not be the way Paul F. did on the record but it will work to the arrangement of this version

I hope it line up the way it should

Here's a variation of Dag's version. I played it like this and doubled with the guitar player 'cause we had no fiddler.

He asks us to show him how to play it but doesn't even have the initiative to find the song to listen to. I'm surprised anyone bothered to show him the lick, and quite frankly, rather upset at my comrades for doing so! Image

No need for apologies. I certantly am not concerned with those being upset with me, just because I don't put conditions on helping someone...anyone.

The general attitude fostered here is one about not being judgemental, and just helping any way we care to. If someone likes to tab, and enjoyed helping the guy out, that's good enough. If you don't want to tab, that's also ok. The other sections are good for debating philosophical stuff. Here, we just tab if we want to, if someone asks, or even if no one asks, and that seems to be plenty good enough of a philosophy.
[This message was edited by Jeff Lampert on 17 November 2000 at 06:48 PM.]

I guess I gave the wrong impression. As everyone who knows me can attest, I'm always more than happy to help anyone in anyway I can. However, I would expect the person who is asking at LEAST to have HEARD the lick before asking how to play it, and preferably TRIED to figure it out.

You guys can tab all day and night, but without proper time values for the notes, and/or a lead line, it's very difficult to figure out and play any lick without having HEARD it.

I agree that it would seem hard to know how to play the lick without hearing the recording. Be that as it may, Harold's a good guy and decided to tab it anyway. I'm the same way at times. Sometimes we tab things that no one asks for just because we like doing it, and there is almost always some one who can use it, even if they didn't ask for it. It also can be archived sometimes by Ricky. It just isn't something to analyze. If someone wants to tab, they just do it 'cause they like to and hopefully someone will benefit. I personally think anyone who takes the time to tab should be applauded, no matter what the motivations, because we need that kind of input on the Forum. I wish we could get more of the posters from the other areas to come into the Tab section and throw some stuff out there. Anyone willing to do some is aces in my book, for what it's worth.
[This message was edited by Jeff Lampert on 17 November 2000 at 10:43 PM.]

Okay, okay, I applaud you guys for tabbing. Image Image Image You've helped numerous people with songs and licks, including myself.

I still don't like people asking for help that don't even take the smallest first step to try and figure things out on their own. Image Image Image At least he spelled champagne right! Ok guys the points here are well taken I believe.
Chas, did you get what you needed out of this?
I'm gunna close this one before we get too far into a discussion about tab etiquette.
Which I love to discuss etiquette; but probably not here>what do ya think?
I'll close to leave the tab up; unless someone thinks it's important to continue and maybe we can work something out.
