Joe Rogers and the ToneX!

Post by Cody Coombs »

Hi all,

I had the opportunity to purchase some amp packs from Mr. Joe Rogers, and I am blown away at how cool this ToneX pedal has become! I got an Evan’s assortment, a few different Peaveys (Session 400, 500, Nashville, etc.), Little Walter, Fender Twin and the Pedabro-Matchbox. I haven’t had a whole lot of time to dial in many of them yet, but as for now I have really been having fun with the Evans, Little Walter and the Nashville 400/Session 500. Most of the amp packs come with the IR speakers as well as the amp. Also included are cool surprises, for example the Nashville 400 has a Ken Fox mod.

I haven’t had a chance to use these on a live stage yet. I have it setup with a Keeley Caverns delay/reverb into the ToneX into a DI box straight into my Focusrite into Logic for some at home direct recording. I am getting an awesome sound for recording! It’s very cool to have the ability to switch to a different amp/cab to go with whichever song I’m recording to with just a button. I also caught a band playing at a casino Saturday night and the fella playing Steel/Guitar was using a ToneX-In Ear rig and was also using Joe Rogers amp packs. I was impressed with how full and warm the sound was coming out of his rig. His Steel rig was as simple as you could get; Boss RV3 - ToneX - DI Box - the PA! Seeing that ToneX rig with what I believe he was using was the Quilter amp model in a live situation from the crowd was a good foreshadowing to how it will sound when I get that opportunity.

I was able to dial in the Nashville 400 with a Black Widow IR and basically have the exact sound as my gigging amp, except it’s in a little box and sounds just as good!

I still have a lot to learn with this ToneX pedal to be able to include it in my live rig for those silent stages. I look forward to that journey!

Very cool stuff!

I haven't spent much time with mine other than dialing up m the Twin Reverb and tweaking it on the pedal. Sounds very good like it is. I plan on looking into Joe's sound package for some better quality stuff.
