One of my favorite pictures of John David Call and myself. He is one of the best steel guitar players out there still on the road today. I love his playing. Grew up learning to play steel listening to the Pure Prairie League records. Stole so may licks from him through the years. He should be in the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame. He influenced a lot of players. He is also one of the nicest guys out there. We have become good friends.

Yeah Dennis. Count me in as one who was influenced by PPL and JD Call's playing. My first experience hearing him play was on an album I bought way back when I was wanting to get a steel and start learning.

The LP was Two Lane Highway. It blew me away. Mr. Call's playing right up front, nice and sweet or saucy if it needed to be. I've since went back and got a lot of their recordings but this is the one of theirs that did it for me.

So cool that you have developed a friendship with him.
I'm happy to hear he's still at it. Anyone would be very fortunate to hear his playing. Hope he continues for a long, long time to come.

That first PPL album and Call's playing on it got me hooked.
That album still holds up as far as I'm concerned.

Was he playing steel when Vince Gill was playing guitar for PPL?
