I recently ran across this song. I wasn't aware that Alan Jackson recorded it.
To my ears, it sounds like either a lap steel guitar or perhaps simply someone playing slide guitar.
Any idea who is playing the part?

I'm going with steel (vs. slide guitar).
And just coincidentally I very recently watched a very short edited down youtube that Paul Franklin/Modern Music Masters puts out to promote his course. This 90 second 'episode' was on playing rockin' licks on PSG. With that in mind and his sound in my ears, it would not surprise me to learn that this R.O.F. was Paul on pedal steel.
But I'm most certainly not going to the mat insisting that it is. |

I'd guess Paul Franklin on one of his lap steels. Sounds like that to me.
...else Robbie Flint as he played some lap style acoustic guitar on Mercury Blues etc., but I dunno about electric. |

I just read the credits, and the steel player on "Ring Of Fire" is definitely Paul Franklin! |

This is an old session. Brought back some memories. I remember being asked for lap steel. Instead I chose to play the C6th pedal steel with distortion. I also was backing off the Wah Wah pedal for tone which provided the dip in highs while adding some mid range oink |

That's a great edgy sound. Something I've never been able to find on either lap or pedal steel. I would ask what device you used for that grit if you remembered.
I really like that rendition of ROF. First time I heard it. Thanks for posting that Lee. |
