I haven't heard that either. Last I heard he was basically retired from playing. That was pre-pandemic.
By the way, I played on that steel show linked in the original post. Buzz was awesome on steel and guitar that day. A couple of years before that, he sat in with my band, playing guitar. Imagine playing pedal steel with Buzz Evans looking over your shoulder with a guitar. We played an instrumental version of "San Antonio Rose" and Buzz tore it up! That sent me back to the woodshed. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

I don't believe this is true. I get posts from his daughter Debbie every so often, and Buzz is still with us. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

I have no information on his current status, but--as long as his name has come up, I'm reminded of clips I saw in the past that are well worth revisiting,
for example, this:
(great throughout, but check out how he cuts loose at 2:40! )
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nr6I93a7r7o
(Why are there not people gathered, agog, behind the barriers to his right and behind him to his left??? )
*N.B.: That was a rhetorical question! |

Amazing C6 player. One of his most requested tunes is the theme from Pink Panther.
Here is a video from his set at the Rocky Mountain Steel Show:

I was sorry to read about the stroke since I hadn't heard.
Wishing the best.
Paul, Thanks for opening this. I would ask you to reconsider having this topic closed. There are many of us here that are big fans of Buzz Evans and think his playing is both amazing and inspiring. Love to hear more examples. TY. JO. |

Buzz was indeed an incredible musician. ISGC St Louis was my 1st time to see him perform. Made me an instant fan. I still have 2 of his CDs from that show. I watched his performance on YouTube every now and then. |

I first heard of Buzz Evans back in the late '70s from John Keese, who played guitar in my band at the time. John was an absolute killer guitar player and a fine steel player as well, and was a huge Buzz fan. He had a cassette tape of Buzz playing with a band called Barb and the Countrymen, playing at a sleepy club somewhere in New Jersey, I think. Buzz was playing great on that tape, just tearing it up on steel and guitar. I love how passionate his playing is, very fun and spirited. A little over the top sometimes, in a good way! You can hear the grin in his playing. I think I still have a copy of that old tape I borrowed from Johnny. |

I always enjoyed watching him in Vegas at the Freemont Experience at the end of the street on a little stage with tracks.
