Peterson rotary dial issue.

Post by Dave Hepworth »

Hi all,
I have the superb Peterson strobo tuner.Had it about 10 years. It functions as it should BUT the plastic rotary dial on the right seems to be going tacky .I presume this is some form of plastic degradation. Has anyone else experienced this on their tuner. If so is there anything I can put on the dial to stop or slow it down.
Do they offer an upgrade on this dial of a different plastic ?
It reminds me of some high end binoculars i had that went exactly the same way. Had to replace them eventually because of this.

I had this problem. It's like the rubber coating is starting to melt...loosing its congealed qualities.

I took the dial off and "cleaned" it with Goo Gone. It did make a difference

Hi All,
Removed the rotary dial, just pulls off,and polished it with methylated spirit ( you guys in the states probably call it rubbing alcohol or denatured alcohol). It took just a few minutes with a soaked cloth to restore and remove the goo .It is now shiny and goo free again.

I've had good results removing tacky plastic with a baking soda paste.

Out of curiosity, what model of Peterson did this happen on?
