Tune down

Hey guys maybe you can enlighten me on this,I read that BUCK OWENS, and the band!would tune down on their guitars. Would TOM BRUMLEY ,tune his guitar to Eb,or could he just use the E 9th tuning and drop back a fret,not real keen on tunings,or music theory.just curious,thanks

No, the whole band tuned down a half tone, so their “E” playing was actually “Eb”. That made it easier for Buck’s vocals, and also reduced string breakage. (No re-gauging would be required.)
