I'm new. After 2 years of practice I decided I'm serious and bought an Asher 6string. I've held off trying slants until I got some of the basic stuff under control. Now I'm ready. Any resources y'all can recommend? Also,I'm from Iowa and am looking for advanced players in the state. Dale Thomas moved to Texas so he's no longer around. I've been playing mostly country, blues and ballads, no swing.

Here are some forward slant harmony positions on strings 1 & 3 and strings 2 & 3 ... using the number system ... and a handy reverse slant using strings 1,2 & 3

Here's a video ... using my 4 string Tenorpan tuned to E Maj tuning (same intervals as open D just up a whole step) ... using only the slant positions shown above ...

You might like Troy Brenningmeyer's website (LWTstreaming.com). He has lot's of useful charts illustrating the fretboard and lessons. I have found it useful...

What kind of bar are you using, Ted?

I use a Shubb sp3. The concept of slants isn't the hard part for me, it's playing in tune.

Those bars are what Robert Randolph used before they made a "Robert Randolph" model, which I don't know how much difference there is. Maybe length, since he uses a 13 string guitar.
I prefer the Dunlop 920 Stainless Steel Tonebar 3.25" X .875", Coming from the Jerry Byrd way of doing slants so three note reverse slants are in are tune.
Most people don't use slants, because they are hard to execute smoothly and keep is tune.
Here's Herb Steiner's forum post about slants:
