Simple Recording

Friends, I have Audacity on my computer. I want to record onto the audacity program; but I am literally recording 101. I am ‘ignorant’ when it comes to doing any recording on computer. I want to record onto my rhythm tracks onto audacity and have a final cd of my recordings.
If any of you have simple ideas and if you could also give me layman’s step-by-step instructions on how to accomplish this I would very much appreciate it. I have my Steel guitar set up in the same room with my computer so as if you were an absolute beginner on how to record on and then finish the CD I would really appreciate it. Thank you friends.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as " simple recording" . Simple Recording and Advanced Recording use the exact same techniques and principles. There may be simple gear as opposed to advanced gear, but the technique for acquiring a clean recording is exactly the same.
Ok , its not a bridge you can't cross but it may take a bit of time, and trial and error. We've all been there.
Before we can start producing "recoded tracks" we have to learn how to use the gear we have in front of us, simple or advanced.
How about start here , this is about Audacity. >>>

The video guys are corny but to the point. TAKE NOTES write your own manual that you understand.
Start slow , repeat the process over and over. It will reap rewards.

I feel your pain David. I had no reference when I started "trying" to record about 10 years ago. Didn't know how to go about it or how to even ask the right questions. BUT, there is hope and YouTube is your friend. Search for things like "recording with Audacity", "getting sound into Audacity", "starting out with Audacity"... things like that, and you'll learn from some of the beginner tutorials, (another search query) how to proceed. The learning curve can get steep the deeper you delve into it, but to simply learn how to bring tracks into Audacity and record your steel to them you'll find to be simpler than you'd think.
Good Luck

David Zornes: The other posters have made some good suggestions so far.
Mainly, the internet and Youtube can be your friends.
However.............
It might also help us if we knew what equipment you have, or don't have, to work with.
Computer
Operating system
RAM
Interface
Etc etc etc
