This Ain't My First Rodeo ?

One of the guys in our little jam group does this Vern Gosdin tune and so I've been tasked to do an intro for him.
I searched around the credit sites but didn't find who the played the steel on this recording.
I think Big Jim Vest might have still been playing with Vern about this time, but don't know if that's him. I believe I hear some of Jim's signature low note bends here and there in the tune.
All I found was it was a single from 1990 and included on a greatest hits album.
Anyway, listen to the opening of this tune and then the incredible second part steel in the intro.
This might just be above my learnin'! Maybe if I break it down into parts I can come up with something acceptable. I can already imagine everybody just looking at each other and saying "What?" because it's kind of unexpected considering the guitar opening.
Who thinks of this kind of stuff? Who does this? These session players just knock it out every time. I don't know how in the world they come up with these kind of things.
