Buck Reid - Kelsey - My Version

Hi, the past couple of years I have been unable to play due to a serious illness, thankfully I am now able to get back into playing again though it's taking a bit of time to get back into it.

Before I became unwell I had a go at doing a version of Buck Reids Kelsey, I got the backing track from Buck along with the tab. Not perfect by any means and nowhere as good as the original but I was happy with the outcome, as with all Bucks material it was really difficult to play. I learned a lot through working through this.

Anyway, here it is,

That was great Geoff, you couldnt have picked a finer song. Buck is such a master and your rendition was spot on!!

Thanks very much guys, enjoyed working out this tune and playing it. Buck is an exceptional player and composer, Kelsey and Cry are the only tunes from A Work In Progress that I would attempt to play.

Saw Buck at the Dallas show 2016, what can I say, brilliant just about describes it. Some other great players too, was a amazing experience all round, plus picked up my MSA Legend 12 while I was there which was custom built, a great sounding steel and a joy to play.

That was so unexpected. I haven't heard anything that good in a long time. Thanks for sharing. The tone was special also. Can you tell us how you recorded it? Ron

Many thanks for your comment.

I didn't expect that I would actually get through it all and manage to play it when I first decided to give it a go. Working out the tab was especially hard, I had to convert some of Bucks copedent to my setup, in some cases this was not possible, would have been easier if I had 3 legs 8)

Struggling to remember my exact setup as far as recording is concerned, I did this around 3 years ago and my setup has changed a bit since then, my memory isn't the best these days.

I use Cubase Pro for my DAW, the pickup used was a Tonealigner which was wound by Bob Hoffnar - http://www.bobhoffnar.net/tone_one.html - if memory serves, into a Goodrich L120 > 12 band parametric eq > Mooer Re-echo > Boss RV6 > Fender Super Twin > either an Audio Technica AT2020 large condenser or Seinheiser E385 dynamic > Steinberg UR28M audio interface.

The backing track was supplied by Buck and is the backing track he used on the original recording.

I have a mastering preset I have set up and use on all my recordings and is roughly - parametric eq > multi-band compressor > reverb.
