Mary Scott

Post by Michael Scott »

You may have heard the phrase “that behind every great man is a great woman”. Maybe, that is an obsolete phrase nowadays. But in the case of my mom and dad it was a phrase that held true. My mom and dad played off each other. If one had a weakness the other filled the gap. When my dad was preparing for a musical performance, he was more nervous than he ever showed. It was during those times that my mom was the hidden force that made things better. Mom reminded dad that he had what it took and he should just put his best foot forward. Things always seemed to work out. Actually, over the years it was a joy to watch. Two perfectly match people making things work. When my dad passed away mom would, in her special way, help all her children and grandchildren become better people. So, her influence never stopped.

Today, Mary Scott, widow of DeWitt “Scotty” Scott passed away. She was taken from us due to complications of a terrible stroke. She battled the effects of this stroke in her usual “bring it on attitude” but lost the battle. When you remember Scotty and all he did please remember Mary for selfless and unwavering influence. What a remarkable person, spouse and mother. We miss her so much already.

It seems to me that Mary was a highly respected force in all areas of her life.
She was also a kind lady- who left a smile wherever she happened to be!
Please accept my sincere condolences!

Very nice post of your mom (and dad) Michael. So sorry to see she too has passed, but her struggles since having her stroke are now ended. Loved your dad. Your mom was always brought up in pretty much any conversation of more than a few minutes. She was a sweetie. RIP Mary and Dewitt. You and your family are in our hearts and thoughts. -John

I spoke with Mary on many occasions and was fully aware of her influence and support of Scotty and all the steel guitar events. I admired your Mom and Dad and will never forget how friendly and polite they were to everyone at the shows. My sincere sympathy and prayers for the Scott family.
