i have tried almost everything to keep my finger picks on but have no luck.I then got this idea. take a small of two side sticky scotch tape and put a small piece on the pads of fingers. slide on picks and they will not come. You will have to pull the picks off

I have never had a problem using spit.

I agree with Robert. might sound a little gross, but it works really well in my opiniion.

Coat the inside of the picks with fingernail polish. After it dries, lick your fingers and put the picks on. Stick like glue!

Heat shrink tubing works great for me.

Washing them in hot water and dish soap always does it for me.

I've done that for years except I don't slobber on my fingers! In addition I use a red polish for #1 finger and green for #2 finger. If you do this slop on three or four heavy coats of polish and let dry overnight. Or... buy a set of finger picks from Ron Landis with those dimple/gripper thingies on the inside. Those work well too.

Like all you, I’ve used them all the last 50 years..lately I’ve been using the ACRIs ..very comfortable and precise..don’t fall off.. $12/pair.

If a set of picks are fitted smooth and even around your fingers, It takes very little to keep them on.
If they are bent sharp to like a hex shape, The sharp bends on 1 pick will catch on the sharp bend of the other pick, One of the picks is going to fly for parts unknown.

If the blades of your picks are bent sufficiently round your fingertips (about 90 degrees), and your fingers are bent back on themselves in the manner of Jeff Newman, then the act of picking pushes the pick on to the finger.

If your picks are too straight or your fingers too upright, the action tends to lever them off.

A anug fit is also important, so spend time with your pliers.

Ironically, I have experienced Susan's panic after deliberately taking them off and then dropping one!

I put a small piece of double stick tape on just the finger nail of middle and index finger. I tried putting the tape on my finger tips but couldn't feel the strings as well.

I fought them buggers for Decades... and I found a solution:
I bend them so the top is tighter than the bottom (SIDE of the "arms")... so really, they now push themselves ON instead of off.

I find coating the inside of the picks with correction fluid works really well.

Newbie here but Ive dabbled in lap, reso, and banjo quite a bit.
Ive never had a problem keeping fingerpicks on. My nemesis is the thumbpick.
Mediums are nearly always too tight and cut off my circulation and large is too big and wont stay secure.
If I find one thats a comfortable enough wrap, theres always something else I hate about it, too short, too long, too stiff, not stiff enough, too pointy, not pointy enough.
Its maddening. but you gotta have em, esp on reso and banjo. I can do fine on lap with bare fingers which is great but Im going back to picks in preparation for my first PSG.

Lick your fingers. Done.

Here's more info on the heat shrink idea. I have been doing this for years with great success - the picks stay on, and they feel much more comfortable. Those Acri picks do look interesting though.

I take a dremel tool or some #60 grit sandpaper and rough-up the inner surface of the finger pick. The increased friction keeps the pick on my finger.

I like Kenny’s idea, except for the screw trick. You’d have to cut the protruding part of screw off to keep from snagging other strings. I like the clothes pin idea, I tried vice grips but they were too heavy and cumbersome.

3 M company makes a stair safety strip, Cut a strip that will fit the inside flat in a thumb pick, Peal the backing tape, and place in pick. Put the pick on and it stays where placed.

PS Rub the sand paper surface lightly on a rock or brick or other hard surface. There seems to be some long spears sticking out of the sand paper surface you may regret.

I see, some of you are desperately looking for a hard solution.
