I am trying to learn this one and I found this video! I love the tone on the reso. He has got just a little breakup and really sounds a lot like Dunn. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9w6Sgj9JtrQ

I feel like if I can master this song, it should open some doors in my playing. I probably need to focus on something a little simpler!

The late Stacy Phillips did a smashing hot rendition of Taking Off on dobro......he has it tabbed out in his first book......

Thanks Howard. I actually got that book recently because I heard it had this song in it. I also got the second book. All I have done is skim through them, but they seem very well done. I have been playing in 8 string A6 only, and I want to try to apply some of the ideas in the books to that tuning since they share the same intervals. This song imparticular seems like a good vehicle to learn some basic jazz improv skills. To play through changes like this, I am finding you have to choose your path very carefully and keep economy of movement a priority. In the video I posted, you can see the melody is played almost entirely in a 5 fret box.

These sound like the same changes to Rose Room.

Thanks Jouni, I knew I'd heard this before. Do we know who composed the original?

Funny cause I'm working on that one on guitar. Trying to get my my jazzman terminology right here, but I think they call it a VI-ii-V-I.

Is that Mark Rubin? Haven't seen him around since the Rockabilly days in the late 90s with Kevin Smith, slappin the old dog house
