I've been listening to early(1944 through 1950) recordings of Hank Penny when Noel Boggs was his steel player. I encourage you to do the same. Noel is absolutely on his game and sounds phenomenal. You hear how he influenced many steel players. Noel takes a break in just about every song. Really inspiring.

Yes Noel Boggs was a Great Steel Guitarist. He passed away a year before I started playing Steel Guitar. I have bought every Steel Guitar album of his Steel Guitar playing that I could locate. He's definitely a Steel Guitarist that younger players should take a listen to. Some of his Steel Guitar recordings have been re-released on CD. Check them out on Amazon Music CDS. RIP Noel Boggs

Good YT interview of Boggs's daughter from Sweetwater Sound.

Only objection: when the interview says "lap steel." Grrrr.

Dude: those are legs on which the instrument sits on the ground. How could it be a lap steel, huh?
