Fundraiser for David Lindley

From a FB post by Ben Elder, there is a Fundraiser for David Lindley's medical expenses. Who hasn't been influenced by Lindley who's playing today?

From Doug Reynolds
About this campaign

My friend Dave is facing multiple, serious medical issues that seem to have begun with a terrible bout of Long Covid. He is now heading into a third year without income from touring and other musical endeavors. He is fighting several illnesses as well as the Long Covid that drastically affected his playing abilities. I decided to launch this fundraiser to help him and his wife Joanie, (Chris Darrow's sis, for you serious fans) using a photo Dave gave me for the Twango Bango III tour I designed for him. I intentionally made it sparse and simplistic in keeping with his preferred style. If you have any of his CDs with the Sharpie-art covers, you know what I mean. I think the pose captures his personality well. 100% of the profits go to Dave. I hope you'll help me help him recover and get back to making music for all of us, even if only in the studio

Andy,

Thanks for listing this. I'm not on FB so I didn't know about it.

I donated, I hope more will.

Thanks for letting us know about this, Andy. Dave’s the reason I play lap steel, like so many others. I’ll be pitching in and telling my friends about it too.

I would like to donate and buy a shirt to help him out. The fundraiser site said won’t let me proceed because it won’t calculate shipping to Canada. Does anyone know the organizer’s contact info?

Thanks,
Mike

David has been a huge inspiration for me. All started with Running on Empty.

Tee shirt on its way! Thanks for head's up. 1st saw live with Jackson at Capitol Theater Passaic NJ in 75. Went home and searched out a fiddle and lap steel, eventually leading to pedal steel in 76. Amazing inspiration that continues today. Thank you David!

Dave's influence is incalculable on steel guitar, American roots music, melodic rock, the revival of the Weissenborn and electric steel in modern music, etc, etc. I don't think anyone else has jumped on his fashion bandwagon, however. :)

I was happy to contribute. So many people in the arts are left without a health insurance lifeline in their later years. It's sad how many fundraisers have been needed for master musicians over the past few years.

Hate to ask, and not sweating $30 for a tee shirt, but is this in fact legit? Google and can find nothing about his condition or the fundraiser other than the person that started it and this thread. It does say 100% goes to David "after expenses". Hope it's not one of those fundraisers where 99% is expenses. Tee shirt bought and paid for and I'll proudly wear a David Lindley tee shirt any day!

Marc, that is a very valid question. I did go to Lindley’s website, and it does show that his last gig (listed on site) was June of 2020. My gut tells me this is very legit.

Pedal steel and Dobro master Pete Grant posted this on Facebook ...

I admit I didn't do any research on this Lindley Fundraiser but there is nothing about it that seemed like a scam to me.

Just saw this and shocked, he's one of the best people I've ever known so prayers and hope for the entire family, donating and can we keep this up toward the top? I'm not on very often and almost missed it.

Thanks for the update, Andy (and Terry V). Glad I could help a little, hope things turn around for Mr. Dave quickly.

Anyone know if there’s a GoFundMe set up to keep helping?

I have my Mr. Dave tee from the fundraiser. Can't wait to wear it at a gig.

Got mine as well. David Lindley was one of the guys who got me interested in playing banjo years ago, so I guess I can blame most of my life on him! It was all downhill from there. (no regrets though)

But seriously, I hope he's doing better. Long Covid and its associated problems is nasty, and especially if you're at the age that many of us are. I have a couple of friends who have really had a bad time of it. Best to Mr. Dave.

An article on the history of the Topanga Banjo Fiddle Festival published in Folkworks current edition that features a very young Mr. Dave, including the cover picture (no lap steel content - then he was a teenager focused on banjo and fiddle): https://folkworks.org/60-years-later-th ... ontestants
