Vintage Lapsteel Tuner Keys

Post by Joel Lavoie »

I own a 1953 National Lapsteel and the tuner heads have completely disintegrated. I would like to find some similar ones to replace the old ones.
Please help.

many places to find them starting with stew mac. take note of the shape of the end of the shaft as you'll need to know that to order the proper ones. they will come in various shades also.

in replacing, i heat the shaft with a soldering gun, put a drop of CA inside the button hole and put it on the shaft.

good luck.

play music!

Fix the bent shaft BEFORE you install the new button. Don't ask how I know this

I've sometimes drilled the button out just a touch and filled the hole with epoxy and pushed them on. Works for me.

you could try Bob Smakula, Elderly, Bernunzio and Gryphon in Palo Alto, among others that are expert in vintage instruments. There's a bunch, actually, Carter's and Gruhn's, Music Emporium outside Boston, tho I ahven't purchased from all of them.

Use these from Stew Mac. I've used them before, I think you drill them and heat the shaft, then put on.
