My Dad recorded this on VHS when it aired and we both watched it over and over. At the time, we didn’t know who the steel player was, we just knew he had technique and finesse out the wazooo. Enjoy!

Tommy is definitely one of the greats! His playing knocks me out every time I hear him.

Edited to add... When I was at the Opry in 92, I remember seeing the Whites and thinking what a talented brother they had--and I didn't even know they had a brother! (He's not even related, btw.)

I second what Ricky said. Tommy is from another planet! The whites were so musical and unique. When all that talent cuts loose its pure magic.

I have never seen Tommy White in person but sure would like to. His playing is so incredible.

Long before I knew who Tommy was, I happened to catch an Opry TV show (they occasionally popped up on TV in the UK in the small hours).

I naturally assumed that he, too, was a part of the family but, much more than that, he was the most accomplished player I had ever seen. I have forgotten the song, but it was a fast 2/4 tune; I didn't think such playing was possible. :(

We've all come to realize where Tommy sits in the steel guitar world: right at the top.

Tommy did Makin Believe with the Whites
on the Opry and to this very day I’ve never heard a
a better or more beautiful ride in my life, man I wish someone had that recorded.

I've remembered the song I heard The Whites play on that old Opry episode: it was one that Ricky Skaggs covered later on on one of his albums. It was: 'If It Ain't Love...'
