Modern Pedal Steel Songs

Post by Conor Ryan »

Hi all!

I've been lurking here for almost half a year now, but I finally decided to join the forum since I bought my first pedal steel on Sunday. I've been playing guitar for 13 years, but switching to the steel feels like I've finally found my instrument.

I can't thank everyone enough for all the valuable information on this forum that has helped me start my journey! I'm on the younger side (25), so one of the things I thought I might be able to contribute back is sharing some of my favorite uses of pedal steel on songs in more recent years.

Here's a link to a playlist I've made that features the steel in subtle, out-of-the-box, or otherwise innovative ways:

If anyone has any suggestions of songs to add to it, I'd love to hear them!

Nice! Thanks for putting this together.

You asked for more... check out Faye Webster who uses a lot of steel. Songs like Kingston or Right Side of My Neck or Hurts Me Too, etc. Not exactly outside the box, but it is 'current use in indie-pop. '

Faye Webster is amazing! I can't believe I forgot to put one of her songs on the playlist. Thank you so much for the recommendation!
