Tony Tipton interview

I'd like to introduce Tony Tipton, one of the "heck of
a nice guys" in our acquaintance and one who continually
amazes us with his progress on the steel , seeing as how
he's a relative newcomer.

He had about a 5 year hiatus or sabbatical from music
and finally bought a Carter D-10 and began to get some
lessons from Jerry Knapper, a fellow that has helped a
lot of players including President Beverly Harris. At
some point he opted for a D-10 Emmons , black of course.
His work experience, a heavy equipment operator, just
fit right in with the Emmons....heavy equipment, get it ?

Tony has spent the last 5 years playing for Justin Wayne
Smith , working the casinos around Ft Gibson/Tahlequah
area . Justin is a fine singer , reminiscent of Strait .
Come to find out during this process that Tony also played
fiddle and guitar . Tony , I need you to break out your
fiddle soon. Nothing defines country music quite like
a fiddle and a steel guitar...can I get a witness /

Tony joined some regional clubs..Arkoma , Siloam Springs
and has been an active participant in the OSGA. If I can
read my notes , one person who mentored Tony was none
other than the great Tom Brumley. You'll enjoy his set
on June 24 & 25 at the OSGA Convention, held at Saint
James Presbyterian , So. Elm St, Jenks Ok a Tulsa area
suburb

b0b notes: Tony Tipton will be performing at the OSGA show in Jenk, OK, on June 24, 2022.

Tony has been a friend of mine about 6 years. He plays his best sets in a Texas Longhorn cap instead of that OU cap. I have watched him improve every year and Larry is right, he is one heck of a great guy.

You are most welcome Tony. Remember, Mr. Rosetta put a Texas cap on your head as well. The good thing is you still liked us as friends.

Tony likes to keep us guessing. I know one thing for sure, he plays better with a UT cap on. I think he should make it a tradition in honor of Roy Rosetta who was a UT graduate as well.

Paul, I think that would be a very nice tribute. I hope he does.
