Jaydee and Strymon Ola

I was at the Dallas show this year and looked over Jaydee's set up as he was about to start his set. I noticed he was using a Strymon Ola. Anyone have any idea of how he uses it? Settings?

Here’s a pic of Greg Leisz on JD’s rig with a glimpse of the Ola at the bottom left. From a hang at Jim Palenscar’s in June last year. Unfortunately I don’t recall any discussion by JD regarding it. Anyone else there remember?

Pretty sure that's Jaydee's amp set up pictured there. Same one he used at Dallas this year. I recognize the brackets holding the pedals onto the Stereo Steel amp.

Looking at the photo again, That's Jaydee's guitar.
I can see his name on it between the neck and the pad?

Yes it’s JD’s steel and FX. He was very gracious and let others sit down an have a go at it.

So is this a new Resound Emmons Guitar that J.D. got. This may have all ready been talked about but I missed if it is so. And I do not know what the OLA is. Somebody please explain. J.R. Rose

The OLA is a very Kool chorus-vibrato pedal. It's pricey, and takes up a bit of real estate on your board, Amp or rack. Although very Kool, I just didn't find enough features on the pedal useful, to justify it's $300 price tag. The "warble" for instance was basically unusable on steel....Kool though.

I am currently using the Walrus Audio Julianna Chorus/vibrato pedal and love it. Using a Mission Expression pedal withit. My Julianna has tap tempo, and an analog front end quiet as a church mouse.

That's not a Resound Emmons. It's a p/p that JayDee got from Larry Sasser. It was a D10 that JayDee converted to an SD...and it's the smoothest p/p the I've ever had the pleasure of playing...it's like a Swiss watch.

First, let me reiterate what Skip said: that steel ... lovingly referred to as "Larry" ... is one of the best-playing p/p's ever!

Regarding the Ola, Jay Dee uses chorus very subtly. Jay Day is always adjusting settings but the last time I looked, this is how the Ola was set: he has the "Type" setting on "chorus." The "Mode" is on "norm." "Speed" was all the way off, "Depth" was around 2:00 o'clock, "Mix" was around 9:00 o'clock, and "Tone" was around 12:00 o'clock. It is run in stereo through the StereoSteel.

Hope this helps.
