Did Sneaky Pete have more than one Fender 400?

Post by robert kramer »

Did Sneaky Pete have more than one Fender 400 during his career or did just have one "old faithful" he kept adding on to, modifying, and refinishing? Thanks very much for any info.

AFAIK, that was Pete's only guitar. He decorated it a few times...once with black & pink lace, calling it a "Kreemo Kustom".

Sometime around 1974/75 Livley Arts music where I was working was a dealer for MSA. We were the point of delivery when MSA was sending a S-12 to Pete. I had to make a few tweeks in the set up after it came in and thank goodness for the ease of making changes on those MSA's!
So Pete had at least that one along with his Fender. JE:-)>

Dan Dugmore told me he bought a steel(maybe his first) from Pete. It may have been that one. Companies sent him stuff but he stuck with the old 400.

I was in a Texas band named Hickory for a short stint..we opened for the Burritos on a few gigs between El Paso and ending at the Palomino. Pete had that same old guitar but by that time, 1978-79(maybe), and there was just a few Klingons of that lace still on it. I remember they had the drummer from Spanky and Our Gang at the time, but I think a different one in L.A. He used 2 session 400s turned waaaay up...by contrast, I played an Emmons PP through 2 Fender Twins turned waaay up.(See, I was one 'a' more quiet than him.)

Dangerous Dan Dugmore & Sneaky Pete

The story about Dan Dugmore is that around 1972 or 73 he bought Kleinow's MSA SD 10 with 10 pedals and four knee levers tuned to the B6th personal tuning SP used.
