I am looking at a 2008 G2 vs a new loaded RP. Should I worry about a 2008 G2? Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I have a 2009 G2 that I bought brand new. Never any problems. only broke one string since I've had it. I wouldn't trade it for any new steel of any brand. Thats my opinion. Good luck to you.

I have a 2006 RP U-12,bought new, and have had no issues. I also have an early to mid-'70s Mullen S-10 bought used from someone who never learned to play it. Haven't had any issues with it either.

For my $.02 worth, all the models Del makes are great guitars.If that '08 G2 has been well maintained and has everything you want, it should do you just fine.

I MIGHT trade the S-10 on a brand new U-12 G2, but I'd have to think about it quite a bit!

I guess the cost of each guitar could be a determining factor, but if the G2 has been maintained properly, it will give you a lot of years of trouble free playing. My SD10 G2 is a 2015 model, and has been my gigging and recording guitar since I got it. It still plays, sounds and stays in tune as it did the day I got it. And it has yet to break a string!

Resale is likely better on the G2. They’re both fine guitars.

I have had my RP d10 8-5 since 2007 plays and stays in tune never breaks strings and solid as a rock. Never any trouble. G2s are nice if you have the extra money. My RP is a tone monster. DEPENDABLE guitar and its the only one I have .

Of course, they're both good guitars. If it's in real good condition - mechanically and cosmetically - I'd go for the G2. I have a 2008 G2 SD-10 that I picked up used several years back, and it's really a very good guitar. Very precise, very smooth.

The most obvious feature difference between the G2 and the RP, to me, is the tuneable split screws at the changer. But I suspect that some of the other advanced features like the sealed ball-bearing bushings in the cross rods and redesigned changer and pedal linkage are part of what makes it feel real good to me. Sounds good too.

A small difference is the wide-mount (G2) vs. narrow-mount (RP) pickup mounting. I think it's probably easier to find a wider range of pickups with the wide mount. Perhaps not that big a deal - it is often possible to change the mounting plate.

You mention the RP is loaded- parts and installation get pricey quickly, and it's hard to beat a new guitar set up to your spec.
G2's, unmolested, are excellent machines, and as mentioned will probably retain more value should you ever want to sell. Personally, of the ~dozen I've played, they're one of my least favorite sounding models, but folks seem to love them.

I have 2 G2’s. One is a 2009 and the other is a 2011. They are still serving me well. Go for it.

I believe you can get an RP with split screws. Also, G2's have 3 lowers. RP's only have 2. I wish I had three lowers for my own anal, technical reasons. Some one posted a list of differences between G2's and RP's a couple of years ago. Do a search. If you can not find it, I'll scan my copy for you. RP

You may well be correct, since the website lists split tuning as optional for the Discovery for an additional $149. But no such option is actually listed for the RP - I just looked - and none of the RP pictures I saw there show split screws. There are also quite a lot of forum threads about the RP not having split screws. Maybe they changed and now offer split screws standard on the RP.

Simple enough to call Mullen and get the skinny on all of this.

The Discovery has a split tail neck that allows for the split tuning option. The RP has a wraparound neck and no drillings to accommodate splits.

Well, thanks to all of you, I opted for the used G2. Bought it from Damir, steels online. Can’t wait to play it.

Yes Ken. The G2, SD10 will serve me well. I will not be able to talk my mgt into another.

me and Larry worked out a little trade deal , and this beauty is about to be on its way to Utah in a few days … I have never owned or played bad Mullen guitar , regardless of the model … and G2 is no exception…
