I've been on a hunt for any songs or albums with Jimmie Crawford playing steel, particularly from the 60s and 70s (I've got all his instrumental steel albums). I spoke with his wife Elsie and their daughter Dee Dee but they don't have much info unfortunately.

I found a handful of Faron Young albums recently that feature Jimmie, all from '68-69 when he was in the band. and I'd love to find more relatively unknown gems like this great Billy Rufus cut from '67: https://youtu.be/E4LUf9WQVq8 (thanks Silas!)

I assume he did some recording with Hank Snow? he also worked with Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Ferlin Husky, Stonewall Jackson, Slim Whitman, Chet Atkins, Cal Smith, Jan Howard, the Wilburns, etc. but I have no idea which songs

Back in the 1980’s a guitar player that I worked with had a Delbert McClinton album that Jimmie was on. I remember it had a cut of “Two More Bottles Of Wine” that had a stereotypical Jimmie doubled ride on. Great stuff as I remember. Sorry, that’s all I got.

In his pre pedal days, he played with Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper. He had a very dynamic style with quite a bit of bar bouncing. Buddy Emmons did the same technique on his Cold Rolled Steel, so he may have been influenced by some of Jimmy's stuff.

In an old SGF post, Buddy named his top ten favorite pedal steel and non-pedal players. Jimmie was on his list of pedal players.

I think Weldon Myrick was credited on "Two More Bottles Of Wine".

Looks like Jimmie did Radney Foster's Running Kind video. Was it just for the video or did he do his session work and actually travel with him?

I remember viewing some of Jimmie's equipment cases. They were stenciled "Jimmie Crawford/ Foster & Lloyd." I'm sure that he toured with both Foster & Lloyd (as well as Radney Foster.) since he was the senior bandmate, they nicknamed him "Craw-paw." (Not to stray too far off subject, but I remember hearing that Rusty Young also toured with them.) I miss chatting with Jimmie. He was a scream!

Jimmie was definitely a character. He called me, collect,(for the youngsters here, I had to pay for the call). He put on his Chicken Pickin' album and walked away. I heard quite a bit of it before I realized he was not coming back to the phone. I waited a while and called him back and he said "gotcha"!
