How many Steel Players have performed at the Super Bowl?

Post by Craig Stock »

After watching the big game last night, I ondered how many steel players have been in the half time show?

I'm thinking maybe Marc Muller with Shania, just curious as to who all had the honor.
Regards, Craig

Not the Super Bowl but Paul Franklin backed up Lee Ann Womack doing the National Anthem, Eagles vs Cowboys, Thanksgiving Day 2014.

Here's an old thread:

The late and most definitely great Tommy Dodd performed at a Super Bowl when it was played in Atlanta. I forget which year and who he backed up, but I saw the video.
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

Invasion of the Purple Zum - Mr. Tommy Dodd on the stand with Tania Tucker 1994

Somewhere there is a picture of the Zum or footage with a better angle. The guitar was light purple with the lightning bolt accent across the front.

Yep, that is back when there was REAL entertainment at the Super Bowl.

Tommy and I talked about that day. He had a great time. They did not play the music live at the halftime, but pre-recorded, for fear of someone making a mistake.

2003 for me but not on steel. 3 song medley and only played guitar. Still a blast though. Backstage with the ladies.

It looked like this one here with the same color scheme but with the Zumsteel lightening bolt design. The story goes that someone came up to him on stage one night and bought it on the spot. So he had this one built to replace the original Superbowl guitar.

Tracer James on Facebook put a picture Of Lloyd Green up and said this is what we need for the halftime show. I said line the stage up with steel guitars. Bill Ferguson is right, that video with Tommy Dodd was when they had real entertainment.
