Looking for tuning keys for Rickenbacher

Post by Mike Tiwater »

Looking for tuning keys that will fit on a 1946 Rickenbacher electro NS. Mine are not the original ones & they don't fit very well. Wondering if anyone knows of a model that will fit & work well? Thanks in advance

Rickenbacker used all sorts of different tuners in the '40s. I think it was whatever they could get for cheap. They could be strip Klusons, or Grovers, or one of several unidentified old things. I'd measure the hole spacings including screw holes and start looking around for something that will drop in without additional drilling.

Kluson were almost the defacto standard for tuners back then, in terms of screw holes and spacing and what-not. Stewmac has quite good replicas, I recently bought a set of these for my 1936 Dobro. You can get the dimensions from their catalog and match to your guitar.

They are quite close to the 1936 patent Klusons that were OEM, just new and probably better quality.
