Steel guitar amplifiers, effects, etc.

Leslie Sim, where to place?

Post by Howard Parker »

New pedal board arrangement. This is how I have configured for the N112.

Pre volume pedal - auto wah, overdrive.

Effects loop - delay, reverb

What's the hive mind on a Leslie/rotary sim placement?

Inquiring minds.

Here's where I've got my Roctary.

Don't often use it with the Delay, but it does take advantage of the fact that the Roctary is mono-in/stereo-out and the Nova Delay is Stereo in/out.

When using the Roctary it's usually the last thing before my amp(s).

Thanks,

The NUX is precisely what I'm dealing with.

It's picky about power but once over that hurdle, sounds fantastic.

I put my organ stuff in a separate loop using a switch box. GTR > compressor > B9 > Strymon Lex > volume pedal > amp

You're very welcome.
What are you using to power it? Right now I've the entire board running off a 1Spot and is seems to be doing well.

My learning curve has been adjusting my playing style and location when using the rotary feature and the dual-octave/organ-sim together. I mostly stay above the 8th fret, avoid the bottom two strings almost entirely, play lighter and use less vibrato. Finally got to use it in rehearsal last night and the guys were pretty impressed. Sounds like an organ!

I like to think of it as if I was using the real devices. (Organ, Leslie, then into the room). My rig’s “B3” FX path looks like this: Organ voice (psg, B9, wah), then volume pedal, then Leslie (Neo Vent), then the room (HOF verb).

For whatever reason there's a bit of a power whine when hooked up to a common power rail (1Spot). It's dead quiet with isolated power.

It depends on what sound you want.
Reverb before or after?
Generally I put my strymon lex after delay and before reverb. That's the sound I like.
Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous; praise is meet for the upright. Give praise to the Lord with the harp, chant unto Him with the ten-stringed psaltery. Sing unto Him a new song, chant well unto Him with jubilation. For the word of the Lord is true, and all His works are in faithfulness. The Lord loveth mercy and judgement; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.

1spots are super dirty. I've had issues with them for years.

Has anyone used an actual Leslie system for PSG. We used to cart two of them around for our organ and you couldn't get any better.

I have been watching this post because I have been struggling with the Leslie Sim thing.
It suddenly clicked that the sim goes after the B9.
Duh... Like night and day with the Lester G.
Now to figure out the rest.
I will keep checking back on this for ideas and input.
Thanks
