Yes "Bobby Austin" and "Johnny Paycheck" wrote the song Apartment #9 and Bobby cut it first in 1967 with Ralph Mooney on Pedal steel right here>
https://youtu.be/-p68zASO4mo
Then Johnny Paycheck cut also in 1967 with Lloyd Green on Pedal Steel right here>
https://youtu.be/NGTcX_V1smc
Also many others cut that song: Tammy; Charlie Pride; Roy Drusky....etc...all in '67-'68...They all used the Steel player assigned to the record company that recorded that artist.

Apartment #9 (w/vocal) Claude Gray
"Claude Gray Sings", Decca DL 74882
1967
Apartment #9 (w/vocal) Johnny Paycheck
"Jukebox Charlie", Little Darlin' SLD 8006
1967
Apartment #9 (w/vocal) Roy Drusky

Wow, great version!.. Moons steel was smacking me right in the face on this one, and sounded like fine old gold...Wonder if he was using the Fender at this point, or that old pedal modified Magnatone or National or whatever it was that he used on early recordings. Thats my idea of classic E9 pedal steel tone ....
