Aloha: At around 42 on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVgy9gMHTHY (Loretta Lynn Hal Rug)
Hal rips a bouncin Betty stacato descending pull off run. I'm clueless how he does this.
I have a good ear and can usually figure things out but I'm stumped on his one. Can
anyone explain how he executes this run? Any ideas appreciated!! Mahalo, Johnny

Thst is "Lorretta Lynn Medley " off Hal's Altered Ego album. Clem Schmitz (sp) has a tab book for it on his EBay site.

I've never heard anyone but Hal play those fast hammer-offs... it's one of his signatures.

does it on this tune too
https://youtu.be/YCjTzhUx-k0

and jump to 50 secs in this video to watch him play it

From a duplicate thread in a different section, Ron Ferrier wrote:

I can do these Hal licks, somewhat. I no joke work on them nonstop for hours, until my hand cramps. And still can’t really do them. They are really difficult because it’s not just hammering on, its pulling off back towards yourself at that speed.

Peggy Green played some of those licks of Hal's work with Loretta & Conway. When I heard Hal's steel I knew I had caught the steel bug.
Buddy introduced me to Conway at Hermitage Inn in the late 80's. That was a thrill.

Cool sounding lick for sure!

Just a reminder that in YouTube the 3-dots in the screen corner has the Playback Speed option. When you slow it down the lick starts to make sense to the ears. Not that I could duplicate it, but the details start to show through.

Mahalo!
For Apple iPad and iPhone, the 3-dots (vertically lined up) are in the Upper Right corner of the video. Click on it and 'Playback Speed' is one of the selections.

For Windows-10 environment, YouTube will have the 'GEAR' icon at the bottom right of the video. Hover over it and it shows 'Settings'. Select that and 'Playback Screen' should be an option.

Not sure what Android devices show though.

Good luck!

Gottem bruddah Ken: Haha, what a dumb. I was looking outside of the actual video screen
and all along, the gear on the bottom of the rectangular field was staring me in the face.
What a great find!
Mahalo nui loa!!!

Johnny, you can use windows media player and slow it way down to where you can figure out what’s he’s doing. I use it a lot and slowing down about half speed really helps. It also keeps it in same key.

Thanks Henry, I was clueless that Windows Media had that slow-down/stay in key feature.
Another great find. BTW thanks for playing "Johnny Come Lately," one of my fave Eagles'
songs! Dang, looks like ya got a gaggle of pedal steels haha.
No need to answer.

Hawwwwwww!
