My friend showed me a video today of Elvin Bishop performing "Fooled Around and Fell In Love" with a female playing pedal steel guitar. He said it was Sheryl Crow. Anyone know?

Well, Sheryl does play some pedal steel, along with piano, bass, and guitar. But since I haven't seen the clip, I don't know if it was her. You can hear a little of Sheryl's pedal steel playing on this cut:

He said it was Elvin Bishop. That's definitely not Elvin. But, that definitely looks like a younger Sheryl Crow. Cool video.

Guitar doesn’t appear to be plugged in. Fender Maverick?

That's a lip-synched video... and I don't think it's Sheryl Crow. She doesn't have that gnarly tattoo on her shoulder.

I didn't think it looked like her either.

There are two other steel players associated with Rod Stewart: Cindy Cashdollar and Robin Ruddy (toured with him on steel in the era of that video, 2007).
As far as I can tell, neither of them has a shoulder tattoo either.
In her own statements, Cindy says she doesn't play pedal steel (of course, the video is lip-synched, so maybe it's her and she's faking playing pedal steel... without her feet on the pedals).
Robin does play PSG... and even looks like the woman in that video, but I don't think it's her. Every picture I've found from that era has her tattoo-free too.
This might be a model brought in for the video shoot. She's using a Shubb bar and no finger picks -- which tracks how a non-PSG player would maybe do it.

Right you are. Didn't pay attention to the tat.
As a side note, being from the SF Bay Area, I saw Elvin many times, and never did he have a steel guitar player that I can remember.

In the track I hear typical A&B pedal movements, but her feet don't seem to be anywhere near the pedals. And actually I don't see any pedals or pedal rods, or volume pedal.

Doesn't really look like Maggie to me. I'm a big Maggie Bjorkland fan. It would be nice to know. Maybe it's just an actress/model hired for the video.

Her hand positioning tells me that if she is a model she at least has a handle on picking some steel or dobro.
