Asheville, NC Players

Post by Nicholas Scott »

My wife and some friends are heading down to Asheville, Nc this weekend for a short getaway and I wanted to know if anybody is gigging. We are planning on going out every night so I figured I’d see if anybody is playing. Thanks!

You will have a wonderful time its a very beautiful place but you probably wont find any pedal steel, Asheville is more of a "eclectic" music venue. Check to see who is at the Grey Eagle or the Orange Peel.

several steel players in town. last Friday Tom Pittman played steel at the Grey Eagle for a Buck Owens tribute. I'm playing the Western Wednesday at Double Crown this week. I don't see much coming up this weekend that involves steel but still plenty of good music. I'd recommend Sons of Ralph at Jack of the Wood on Friday. Marty and Don Lewis are great musicians, their father Ralph played with Bill Monroe in the 70s. Marty plays steel but I think the show will be more of an acoustic/bluegrass deal.

Asheville is still getting back to normal, there's usually a lot more to choose from. but here's a decent events calendar to check out: https://calendar.mountainx.com/cal

Scott the last steel player I saw in Asheville was Lynn Netherton. He was with Vollie McKinzie at the Grey Eagle. Are those guys still around?

hey Jeff-
they are still around although Lynn is not playing as much these days. a real shame, the guy is a genius (built his own steel) and a fantastic player. here's hoping he gets out more in the future.
