On the E9th neck, I split the lever that lowers the Es to D# with the C pedal, which raises them to F# (so they get lowered to F).

If I'm setting the hard stop on that lever, should I do it with the splitter screw disengaged. the C pedal down, and the lever pressed?

It seems to me that would give me the maximum amount of pull I would need, but I don't know. I'm hoping some of you guys with more experience will give me a clue!

Thanks in advance.

Sounds about right – tuning the F first and the D# last.

Just be certain to not tune out all the rod slack. You may want think in terms of adjusting the stop so the F is a little flat, then backing off the lowering nylon nut to bring in some slack.
And I'd say that yes, the split screw should be backed off out of the way until you are ready to tune the lever (D#) alone.

And that's what I did. It was a bit difficult to hold the pedal up (the guitar being upside down), the lever pressed, and turn the lever stop screw at the same time, but I just used all three hands. Very Happy

Note that the video is about how to tune a split, which is surely a good thing to understand.

My original question was about how to set the knee lever travel limit on a knee lever with a split.
